matar aloo, how to make matar aloo


Matar Aloo is a tasty simple dish that we usually make at home. This dish does not require a lot of cooking. MatarAloo with gravy are quick option for anyone who wants to eat tasty but simple dish in few minutes. So lets get started!


Servings 4-6

  • 2  Medium  Aloo (potato)
  • 1.5 cup  Matar (Green Peas)
  • 1  Large Onion
  • 5-6  Garlic Cloves
  • 1  Inch Ginger
  • 2  Green Chillies
  • 2  Large Tomato
  • 1/2  Teaspoon Cumin Seed
  • Pinch Of Hing (Asafetida)
  • Some Curry Leaves
  • 1  Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/4  Teaspoon  Red Chilly Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • Oil
  • 2.5  cup water


First of all make a fine paste of tomato, onion, garlic, ginger and green chillies in a blender.Now heat oil in pressure cooker and add cumin seeds. As cumin seeds started crackle, add hing and curry leaves. Stir and add the paste, turmeric powder, chilly powder and mix it well. Let the masala covered and simmer it on medium flame. Don’t lock the lid of the pressure cooker.


Stir occasionally. As the masala gets thick and started leaving oil add salt, potato, peas.Mix it well.


Now add water and stir it. Cover and lock the pressure cooker with its lid. Pressure cook for  1-2 whistle till potatoes and peas are cooked. Finish with adding garam masala. Serve hot with poori, chapati, paratha or rice.
